Windows 7, latest version of Microsoft operating systems, is an integration of many new features in the upcoming operating system. Features include an improved taskbar, an expanded preview pane, and many more attributes to make a person’s experience of Windows 7 easier and more fun, according to Microsoft Corporation.
Formerly known as Blackcomb and Vienna, Windows 7 was created based on what Windows users requested.
“Windows 7 is faster, more reliable, and more compatible with more devices than ever before,” states Johnathan Kelch, a Windows “Guru” of Microsoft Corporation.
Many never-before-seen features are included in Windows 7. For example, it features a newly designed taskbar. This revision is the most significant to the taskbar since its introduction in Windows 95, according to Wikipedia. The taskbar is enlarged from Windows Vista, so it can display icons larger. A user can open programs by simply clicking on the icon at the bottom of the screen.
Windows 7 also features an expanded preview pane. Introduced in Windows Vista, the idea of a preview pane grew significantly in Windows 7. Now, minimized or nonactive windows can be previewed by hovering the cursor over it. Additionally, by right-clicking an icon, a large jump list will display, each list unique to the application. In Internet Explorer 8, open tabs can also be previewed and even closed.
Another feature unique to Windows 7 is the new device list. Rather than having different devices on different menus, a user can now access all input devices whether they are printers, jump drives, cameras, MP3 players, cellphones, or any other device. Each device menu also has new options that make it easier for most users to view and change input devices. When a user plugs in an input device, a new device stage will appear on the taskbar. This device stage basically consists of an icon on the taskbar showing a replica of the device. This icon can be right-clicked and opened to display a unique menu with many different options for that particular device.
Many shortcuts are also included on Windows 7. For example, if a user moves the cursor to the bottom right-hand side of the screen, the desktop will appear and all windows will be minimized. By dragging a window to the left or right side of the screen, the window will be resized to take up half the screen, allowing the user to see two windows at the same time. If he drags and shakes a window once, all other open windows will disappear, and if he drags the window again, all the minimized windows will maximize again. In addition, several keyboard shortcuts have been added as well.
Many new design concepts have been added as well. The taskbar at the bottom of the screen is transparent when inactive. Like Windows Vista Home Premium and other editions, Windows 7 features Windows Aero, which makes open windows appear translucent. Windows 7 also features Peek, which enables all documents to appear transparent with only an outline.
