Steelers Take Super Bowl XLIII
02/01/09

In what is considered by Steeler fans and commentators “the most exciting Super Bowl ever,” the Arizona Cardinals were about to stamp this game as the greatest comeback in Super Bowl history.  The Cardinals were down at the end of the third quarter by 20-7 . . . 13 points; yet, in the fourth the Cardinals went on to score 16 unanswered points.
With only 35 seconds left on the clock, Ben Roethlisberger connected with Santonio Holmes on their last play to win Super Bowl XLIII with a score of 27-23. Holmes had only one square yard of end zone to operate in and replays were viewed to confirm the call.
As stated to EPSN, Holmes said, “I knew it was a touchdown 100 percent. My feet never left the ground. All I did was stood up on my toes and extended my hands."
Roethlisberger completed nine of his passes to Holmes for 131 yards and that winning touchdown.  Holmes was named Most Valuable Player. James Harrison sealed his mark in Super Bowl history for the longest scoring play for his 100-yard interception return of Kurt Warner's second-quarter attempt.

I hated the outcome of the game, not because I like the Cardinals, but because Kurt Warner's last throw was an obvious forward pass, but was called a fumble and ended the game. The referees should have reviewed the call; therefore, the Cardinals would have still had time to score.

In my opinion I didn’t like that the Cardinals lost, but it was one of the best games I’ve ever seen.  The game had many ups and downs and also has arguably some of the best plays in Super Bowl history.  I would have to say that James Harrison’s 100 yard interception return with no time left on the clock was the best play of the game and the best of my recent memory in a big game. The game also proved who is the game’s best receiver – Larry Fitzgerald.  Even though the Cardinals lost, I believe it also answered the question as to whether Kurt Warner should be in the Hall of Fame because he has the three best passing performances in the Super Bowl despite his loss.

I feel the Steelers are the biggest franchise in the NFL after this victory. They started off very slow at the beginning of the season with the lost to the Eagles, but they didn't let that get them down. This performance on Super Bowl night showed the strength and discipline in their team. The Cardinals did their part by becoming a no name team to a terrifying factor in the League, but only one team can emerge victorious and I feel the Steelers were more determined than any other team in the NFL.

“Regardless of who won the Super Bowl, I think the last play that the Cardinals ran should have been reviewed.  It would have made a more interesting game and also saved a lot of controversy.  I believe that Kurt Warner’s arm was moving forward; therefore, they should have remained in possession.”
